Marilyn Gilbert-Mitchell, at her core, is an educator with decades serving students, families, schools, and communities. This work with thousands of teens, young adults, adults, and seniors, is the source of her focus on transitions. The concept of “continual change” blends experiences, tools, and resources into action plans that frame her coaching and consulting sessions. These practices are productive tools for responding to life’s changes such as leaving home, parenthood, career shifts, family changes, health challenges, divorce, financial issues, and death of loved ones. With experiences from working with families across decades, Gilbert-Mitchell's systems have opened deeper discussions, created results, and transformed lives.
Gilbert-Mitchell’s professional career also includes being a speaker, presenter, facilitator, and trainer with youth, young adult, and adult audiences. Prior events include speaking in Nairobi, Kenya; Victoria, Australia; and nearly 20 states in the United States. She incorporates many of the skills and experiences acquired over thirty years working with a Fortune 500 company, higher education, cultural and community organizations, and secondary education.
Her background is strengthened by a bachelor’s degree, three master’s degrees, a graduate certificate, and coursework from Tuskegee University, Chicago State University, American College of Education, National Louis University, and University of California- Riverside. Gilbert-Mitchell is also part of several community and cultural organizations such as Girl Scouts of America, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., New Covenant Church, and individual mentoring.
Her personal quote is to “make decisions that add meaning to your life and leave a lasting legacy for others” attests to her belief that our lives are about ways we can positively impact others. Knowing her life’s purpose is fuel to make her own “ripple effect” and leave her imprint on the earth.
